Meet the face behind dayllights. She is gaslighting, gatekeeping and girl bossing!
Nice To Meet Ya
Hey! I'm Nurin (she/her), a 20-year-old graduate who's trying to navigate life. As far as I can remember, I've been an avid reader. I love sharing my thoughts on the books I've read through book reviews while curating reading lists for every occasion!
Besides reading, I also like to knit and watch movies.
I absolutely love music too so you'll find me quoting those on here quite often. Harry Styles and Taylor Swift are my BFFs (real). Other than making reading lists, I also adore creating music playlists. I think they hold so much power with the emotions they are able to evoke in the listener. A good playlist always makes me happy.
Health is another important aspect of my life.
How dayllights Came About
I've been pondering on the idea of creating a blog for a while now — I mean, who still makes them in this digital age? Blogs were things of the 90s and the fact that I'm making one in the 21st century seems a bit old-school.
But blogging isn't something new to me. I've had a 'mini blog' on the microblogging and social media site, Tumblr. I first created dayllights in the spring of 2019.
my blog is still up on Tumblr if you're keen on checking that out
As a fresh tertiary student, I wanted an outlet to find motivation for studying. I found that in the studyblr (study + Tumblr = studyblr) community. It was fun, inspiring and what a well-knit community. Twitter honestly could never.
Unfortunately as time went on, I felt the pressures of posting and the need for perfection every single time. When a post of mine didn't do as well as I hoped, I'd get upset and refrain from posting for a long time. This defeated the whole purpose of my initial journey into the studyblr community. I distanced myself from studying in an online presence and found myself being content with just being a spectator.
Around the same time, my love for books rekindled itself. Instead of study tips, pictures of my notes or participating in “productivity challenges”, I found joy in book reviewing. I love sharing my thoughts on books with others and hearing their thoughts as well. It was an interesting experience when a chunk of words can mean so many different things to everyone.
However, since I didn't grow on Tumblr with a niche of books, my posts were not getting any engagements. Obviously, there are more important things in the world than being liked on the Internet but it gets tiring when you're always trying to reach out to people but your hard work doesn't ever seem to be repaid.
In the end, I decided on starting afresh on this new platform where hopefully I can find a group of people who are interested in what I have to say and can share their love of books with me.
The Future Of dayllights
You'll find all things bookish — book reviews, recommendations, reading lists and so much more!
I'll also occasionally pop in with a personal life update about my interests! I planned on doing a summer health challenge to improve my physical, emotional and mental health and I think that would be interesting to document.
Honestly, at this point, I'm just winging it. I've learnt that promising things to others just creates a lot of unnecessary stress on myself, and I prefer to go with the flow.
To stay updated on my posts, join my newsletter so you'll be notified every time I have a new upload!
This is my first post so I'd love to hear your feedback on it. I may be a reader but I am definitely not a writer so I would appreciate any tips to improve my writing.
That's all for today. I'm so excited to start on this new journey, and am looking forward to chatting with new people! Thanks for reading.
